Spend some time in Grapevine

By Layla Bellows

Great Wolf Lodge, Grapevine, Texas, Indoor water park, outdoor water park, Gaylord Hotels, entertainment, lodgingUpon hearing the word grapevine, most folks likely would think of wine, but here at vacationplanning.net, we instantly think of Grapevine, Texas. Located in the heart of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, this town packs a punch for visitors looking to get the old-fashioned downtown experience without sacrificing the amenities of a modern city.

Looking for a luxury hotel? Grapevine’s got ‘em. Those who want to cool off from the Texas heat need only look to the Great Wolf Lodge: The 52-acre, 605-room, all-suite hotel houses an 80,000 square-foot indoor water park (left), and the outdoor one is even bigger. Need some pampering? Head to the Gaylord Texan Resort, where you’ll stroll along indoor gardens as you shop, walk to dinner or head to the Glass Cactus nightclub to dance ‘til you drop. Nurse yourself back to health the next day at its Relache Spa.

One of the nicest things about Grapevine is that it’s much more than resorts. The restored Main Street District in its historic downtown area has everything from art galleries to a British grocery (great spot for all your specialty tea needs) and upscale boutiques. The Palace Theatre Arts Center, comprised of the Lancaster Theatre and the Palace Theatre, both dating from the 1940s, is the centerpiece of downtown and home of the Grapevine Opry. Check out the CVB’s events page for information about shows, concerts and events. And of course the town has wineries aplenty.

Every city boasts something for everyone, but Grapevine is a town that lives up to the promise. Whether your traveling companions are children, girlfriends or just the guys, you’ll find as much relaxation as excitement in this small city within a large metro area.
