GREENBRIER COUNTY, WV

If you are looking for a small town escape with a beautiful mountain and valley setting, Greenbrier County is just the place. The towns are full of specialty shops, art and antique galleries plus some of West Virginia’s best restaurants.

Those looking for a romantic getaway will fall in love with Greenbrier County’s quaint country inns and bed and breakfasts. And, what romantic getaway would be complete without dining at some of West Virginia’s best restaurants? Three Greenbrier County restaurants, The General Lewis Inn, The Greenbrier, and Food and Friends were recently featured on The Food Network’s "Best of..." series.

If you want a true taste of southern hospitality, Greenbrier County is also home to "America’s Resort"- The Greenbrier. This famous destination offers guests world-class accommodations, cuisine and service. The Greenbrier was recently named the number one resort hotel in the U. S. by Andrew Harper’s Hideaway Report in addition to being ranked the number one U.S. golf resort by Travel and Leisure magazine.

For the outdoor adventure seeker, Greenbrier County has some of the country’s best hiking and biking right along its Greenbrier River Trail. There is also incredible canoeing, kayaking fishing, camping, not to mention golf on one of our championship golf courses. The county is fortunate to be home to Oakhurst Links, the oldest golf club in America. The game is played today the same as it was since its founding in 1884, complete with replica clubs and sheep that roam freely on the course.

Greenbrier County is an area steeped in history with many Revolutionary and Civil War battles fought on what today are but quiet country roads. History buffs will certainly not want to miss the many Revolutionary and Civil War battle sites and the Battle of Lewisburg and Battle of Dry Creek reenactments.

A vibrant arts and cultural scene is something that appeals to both visitors and locals
alike. Carnegie Hall is known for live music and theater productions plus art education and Greenbrier Valley Theatre is West Virginia’s only year-round professional equity live theater venue. The area’s many unique art galleries featuring local and regional artists contribute to Lewisburg, the county seat, being named one of the Top 100 Small Art Towns in America.

It is no wonder that Lewisburg serves as a hotbed for a lot of this activity and has received the honor of being named one of a "Dozen Distinctive Destinations" by the National Trust for Historic Preservation in 2004.

Visit Greenbrier County and you’ll see why it truly is...far enough away, so close to home.
