This planned community is one of only three “Greenbelt Communities" in the United States built by the Franklin Roosevelt Administration in 1936. The goal was to provide much needed jobs and better housing for families. This wonderful Village was designed to look like an English Garden Village and still resembles New England’s Williamsburg. If you visit during the summer months– more than 40,000 flowers are planted annually along the downtown streets, in hanging baskets, in sidewalk beds and storefront window boxes. The scenery’s just as pretty if you come during the Holiday season, when more than 100,000 twinkling lights frame the buildings along the main street.
