LUBBOCK, TX

Standing on the plains of West Texas, as you feel the warm breeze on your face, you will be surrounded with the pioneering spirit that tamed this land known as Lubbock. Unlock the secrets that give Lubbock a unique spirit; from down-home country dining to unrivaled shopping and outdoor fun, Lubbock is home to Texas Tech University, Buddy Holly and a legendary ranching and music heritage.

With a growing population of more than 218,000, Lubbock is carving out a dominant role in the West Texas landscape. Already hosting a thriving agribusiness culture, an eminent university system and a regional medical powerhouse, Lubbock is forging a new reputation as a fertile setting for revolutionary enterprise and technology.

Texas Tech University is the largest comprehensive higher education institution in the western two-thirds of the state of Texas, and attracts many visitors to Lubbock throughout the year. The University houses more than 30,000 students and a world-quality faculty. Texas Tech offers a wide selection of theater, music and dance performances and, of course, Big XII sporting events.

In the fall of 2009, Lubbock established a downtown Cultural District that encompasses the major cultural venues in the area including in the Louise H. Underwood Center for the Arts, Buddy Holly Center, American Wind Power Center, Museum of Texas Tech University and the National Ranching Heritage Center. The Cultural District is also home to the annual Lubbock Arts Festival, First Friday Art Trail, National Cowboy Symposium and Celebration, Lubbock Moonlight Musicals, 4th on Broadway Celebration and performances by Lubbock Symphony Orchestra and Ballet Lubbock. Lubbock’s Cultural District has received the State of Texas Cultural District Designation, as awarded by the Texas Commission on the Arts—one of seven cities in Texas.

West Texas is responsible for over 70 percent of the total wine grape production in Texas. Enjoy wine tastings and tours at one of Lubbock’s five wineries: Cap*Rock Winery, La Diosa Cellars, Llano Estacado Winery, McPherson Cellars Winery and Pheasant Ridge Winery. From savory flavors to stunning architecture, Lubbock’s wineries offer an up-close look at the winemaking process.

Fall in love with Lubbock as the weather turns cooler. Enjoy attractions and events that will please the whole family. Each fall, At’l Do Farms, a 12-acre corn field, is transformed into an “Amaizing Maize” for people to come challenge their wits and see if they can find their way through this life-size labyrinth. Don’t miss Heritage Halloween (October 30) or Candlelight at the Ranch (December 10-11) at the National Ranching Heritage Center where the story of ranching in North America is told through the preservation of 48 authentic structures displayed on a 16-acre site.
