Are you looking for the perfect vacation? Bask in sun-kissed days, walk historic streets lined with Victorian homes, enjoy oceanfront boardwalks, eat the catch of the day and sip local wines at our eateries, go birding and biking and camp under the stars and enjoy nature’s splendor at New Jersey’s Southern Shore.
Located at the southernmost tip of New Jersey, Cape May County boasts more than 30 miles of sugary-white sandy beach that winds along the gentle surf of the Atlantic Ocean and connects the resorts of Ocean City, Sea Isle City, Avalon, Stone Harbor, the Wildwoods and Cape May. In Cumberland County, the beaches stretch for 42 more miles along
Delaware Bay.
It’s all about the water here with the Atlantic Ocean on the east, Delaware Bay to the west and channels, sounds and inland waterways on all sides. There’s definitely something about the water that attracts visitors to New Jersey’s Southern Shore — from deep-sea fishing to back bay crabbing, paddling a kayak to riding a wave runner, to sailing, fishing and canoeing in the many rivers, lakes and streams of Cumberland County.
New Jersey’s Southern Shore just makes sense — now more than ever — because there are tons of free or low-cost events and attractions that help stretch your vacation dollars. Check out Southern New Jersey Vacationer’s “101 Things To Do” and the events listings at the www.njsouthernshore.com to learn just how much our region has to offer.
The boardwalks have an atmosphere that is unique. Ocean City’s Boardwalk has Gillian’s Wonderland Pier and Playland Park. And in the Wildwoods, it’s Morey’s Piers with three locations along the 38-block Boardwalk with roller coasters, bumper cars, Ferris wheels and some spinning, zipping and reeling rides that aren’t for the faint of heart.
In America’s first seaside resort, you’ll notice the Queen Victoria, the Prince Edward and the Duke of Windsor. No, you’re not strolling along Covent Garden or Hyde Park in foggy London Town, it’s beautiful Victorian Cape May, a national historic landmark boasting more than 600 Victorian structures.
A centuries-old glassmaking industry in the City of Millville has given rise to such attractions as the Glasstown Arts District and Wheaton Village, offering an abundance of specialty shops and museums. While you’re here, don’t miss seeing the longest road track in North America, the 700-acre New Jersey Motorsports Park, which offers a full slate of major spectator races.
Anxious to see the wild animals of Africa? Then stop by the Cape May County Zoo and stroll the savannah where giraffes and zebras roam freely — there’s probably some deer and antelope, too. Or visit the Cohanzik Zoo in Bridgeton and get a glimpse of rare white tigers.
Always longed for a vacation in the wine country in Italy or Napa Valley? Check out the vineyards and wineries in the three southernmost counties in New Jersey — and there are plenty of them! — for tours, tastings and fun.
And what’s wine without food? Of course, there are fabulous Italian restaurants — plus Asian, Thai, Indian and other ethnic favorites — and plenty of Irish pubs — all well represented throughout Southern New Jersey.
So, join us “just for the fun of it” at New Jersey’s Southern Shore.
