Lake City is located at the heart of Lake Pepin. Approximately 3 miles wide and 21 miles long, Lake Pepin is the largest lake on the Mississippi River. The Lighthouse and Museum at the entrance to the City marina is the only working lighthouse on the entire length of the River! The Museum features much of our rich nautical history.
Lake City is a beautiful historic river town where you can enjoy all the natural splendor of the surrounding bluffs, the lake, and numerous parks and vistas our city has to offer. The 250-acre Hok-Si-La Municipal Park and Nature Preserve has walking trails, an interpretive center, tent camping, screened shelters, a dining hall, and a beautiful sand swimming beach. The Park offers tremendous opportunity to see a multitude of birds and wild animals.
In 1922, Lake City was the Birthplace of Watersking, and every June we celebrate it with a festival called Water Ski Days! Other events include the 100-Mile Garage Sale in May, Tour De Pepin Bike Tour in June, Fourth of July Fireworks in July, and Johnny Appleseed Days in October, a long with our Street Markets in late summer.
Enjoy a scenic, narrated cruise on the Pearl of the Lake Paddlewheel boat, a modern day replica of the grand riverboats that traveled the Mississippi River in the 1800’s. Lake City features two first class marinas. The Lake City Marina is the largest small boat Marina on the entire Mississippi River! Lake Pepin’s vast expanses of water and the gentle breezes that frequent the Lake combine to make it one of the top 5 sailing locations in the World! Hundreds of sailboats use Lake City as their harbor and many of them offer sailing cruises to the public.
