QUEEN ANNE'S COUNTY, MD

Explore historic sites from the 1600s in charming small towns, go antiquing in historic Stevensville or learn about native species at the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center. Enjoy the tranquility of Maryland's Eastern Shore!

Just across the magnificent four-mile span of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, old workboats putter out of fog-shrouded marinas at dawn, bird-watchers keep eyes peeled for migrating wildfowl, friendly shopkeepers peddle ripe produce or showcase fine antiques. This is Queen Anne's County, a world of scenic shoreline and fertile farmland.

Start your journey at the Chesapeake Exploration Center on beautiful Kent Narrows, home to our Chesapeake legacy, a hands-on interactive exhibit providing an overview of the Chesapeake Bay region's heritage, resources and culture. The exhibit explores man's relationship with the bay and covers the early history, including the settlement and importance of tobacco as a monetary staple.

Matapeake State Park, on the island's western shore, offers views of the Bay Bridge, boat ramps, and a 900-foot-long fishing pier. Terrapin Park Nature Area includes a one-mile nature trail, pond, two observation blinds and a boardwalk to the Chesapeake Bay.

Just east of the island, in Grasonville, the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center, operated by the Wildfowl Trust of North America, is a 500-acre sanctuary with trails around six waterfowl ponds, each representing a different wetland habitat. You may see deer, red fox, herons, swans, turtles, geese, many species of ducks and other migratory birds passing through on the Atlantic Flyway. The visitor center has a large picture window overlooking a waterfowl pond, hands-on exhibits for children and an aquarium with creatures from the Chesapeake Bay.

Traveling east to Queen Anne, you'll find Adkins Arboretum and the 60-acre lake at Tuckahoe State Park, a haven for boaters, anglers and campers. Spectacular sunsets compliment some of the finest waterfront dining in the region!

Enjoy fresh Chesapeake Bay seafood, play a challenging round of golf or cycle our new Cross Island Trail. Enjoy a restful night in a charming bed-and-breakfast and some casual outlet shopping or antiquing in our slow-paced, small towns. We invite you to enjoy the tranquility of Maryland's eastern shore!
