ST. BERNARD PARISH
ST. BERNARD PARISH, LA
Welcome to St. Bernard Parish, a tranquil spot just 5 miles from the heart of New Orleans. Scenic waterways such as Lake Borne, Breton Sound, and the Mississippi River itself are ideal for fishing and hunting, and also put St. Bernard Parish on the map of the American Wetland Birding Trail.
St. Bernard Parish is a warm and welcoming community with a unique identity that dates back to mix of French and Spanish who settled the area in the 1700s. Historic homes and other sites in this area often date back to the early 1800s. Visitors to St. Bernard Parish can explore the battleground where a young United States was defended during the War of 1812. The battle is re-enacted every year at Jean Lafitte National Historic Park and Preserve. Visitors will also encounter festivals commemorating the history and culture of St. Bernard Parish throughout the year. Visitors can also join the fun at local festivals celebrating local foods, including crawfish, shrimp, oysters and tomatoes.
