The Somerset-Pulaski County Convention and Visitors Bureau warmly welcomes you to South Central Kentucky. You'll discover that we are ideally nestled between the Daniel Boone National Forest and Lake Cumberland and are conveniently located just off I-75. You'll also discover that the lake is beautiful year-round.
There are so many ways to enjoy Lake Cumberland. Whether you are interested in skiing, boating, fishing or more, Lake Cumberland has a spot just for you. There are thousands of coves and breathtaking shoreline for you to enjoy while you cruise the lake. Bring your boat or jet ski or rent one of ours. You'll find the marinas in the area are equipped to handle your every need. You'll even find an impressive selection of houseboats for the perfect long weekend or week-long vacation.
Our marinas offer houseboats in a variety of sizes with all the amenities to make you feel right at home, including air condition, TVs, VCRs, water slides and more. Many visitors to Pulaski County are happy to spend their days enjoying the various recreational assets of Lake Cumberland while others may prefer to explore the area and visit other nearby attractions.
Here are a few suggested itineraries, some are within Pulaski County while several are located in adjoining counties: For those interested in Agri-tourism venture out East of Somerset to Cedar Creek Vineyards or Sinking Valley Winery for a tour and a tasting of the wine varieties they make. Head West on US 80 for a trip to Haney’s Appledale Farm in Nancy where you can pick your own apples in season and treat yourself to a delicious fried apple pie.
Art enthusiasts should start your tour in downtown Somerset by checking out the art exhibits & special events at Brandywine Studios. Then pay a visit to Riverstone at the Vortex and check out the offerings of the Watershed Arts Alliance, Sheltowee Artisans and Cazalet Studios. Country Music fans will appreciate a trip to Renfro Valley, Kentucky’s Country Music Capital and home of the world famous Barn Dance Show.
While in that area, head on up to Berea, The Folk Arts & Crafts Capital of Kentucky. Downtown Berea is full of arts & crafts shops. Civil War History buffs will want to take the Mill Springs Battlefield Driving Tour which begins at the 7-acre Mill Springs National Cemetery. The driving tour has stops at important battle sites and monuments, including Zollicoffer Park.
The last two stops on the driving tour take you to Monticello to the Mill Springs Park and Mill. Mill Springs features the historic Brown-Lanier House as well as a restored working grist mill. Near historic Stearns, KY visit the Big South Fork Scenic Railway where you can take a nostalgic 16 mile round trip train ride. The trip includes spectacular scenery as it descends into the gorge before stopping at the Blue Heron Coal Mining Camp, a NPS outdoor interpretive site.
Another great stop in this area is the Barthell Coal Camp. Barthell was the first Coal Camp belonging to the Stearns Coal & Lumber Company.
