Sitting at the heart of the world’s thoroughbred industry, Lexington is where racehorses are bred, born, trained, officially registered, bought and sold, retired to stud and buried. The equestrian attractions in Lexington range from the beautiful thoroughbred farms surrounding the city to the stunning Keeneland Race Course. The Kentucky Horse Park also offers hundreds of acres of horse pastures, the International Museum of the Horse, and spectacular shows year-round! From September 25 to October 10, the Kentucky Horse Park will host the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, the largest sporting event ever held in Kentucky and the largest equestrian event ever held in the United States.

Lexington’s rich history is evident at every turn. Located just a few miles apart, on opposite ends of downtown Lexington, the Mary Todd Lincoln House and Ashland, the Henry Clay estate, reveal 19th century life in Lexington for these two prominent families. After a visit to these beautiful homes, take a short drive out through the picturesque Bluegrass countryside to discover another of America’s historic treasures. Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill, a National Historic Landmark and the United States’ largest restored Shaker community, features 34 restored buildings on more than 3,000 acres of preserved farmland. This living history museum offers village tours, 40 miles of trails, delightful regional cuisine and special programs throughout the year.

Along with the traditions of horses and history, nearly 100 percent of the world's bourbon is produced in Kentucky. Visit historic distilleries and discover time-honored traditions of bourbon production and tasting of some of the most prominent labels, including Maker’s Mark, Woodford Reserve, Wild Turkey and Four Roses. In addition, numerous vineyards dot the surrounding countryside, providing a wonderful getaway for wine lovers from around the world. These vineyards offer wine tastings, unique merchandise and festivals on their picturesque grounds.

Just beyond this pristine surface, however, Lexington resounds with excitement. Emerging artists, world-class events, eclectic cuisine and thrilling discoveries are all a part of the unexpected surprises you’ll find when visiting! The city abounds in culture, with events including live music performances, art gallery hops, outdoor festivals, Broadway shows and classic movies at the Old Kentucky Theatre.
