Mountain Parkway Scenic Byway: The Bert T. Combs Mountain Parkway is a beautiful drive from Winchester to Salyersville. Red River Gorge Loop Drive: 46 mile National Byway route on KY 11,77,715 & KY 15, passing through the Nada Tunnel and old logging railroad tunnel along the Red River. Over 150 natural sandstone arches in the area and three waterfalls in the gorge.
Zilpo Scenic Drive: KY 211 from Salt Lick to Clear Creek Rd (FS 129), follow signs to Zilpo (about 13 miles), Enjoy breathtaking view of Cave Run Lake along the way. Passes Clear Creek Furnace and Tater Knob Tower. State Parks offer wonderful ways to explore Daniel Boone Country. Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park-Serene park sits on 1,200-acre mountain lake. Features a lodge, cottages, restaurant, boating, fishing and swimming. KY 28, 22 miles west of Hazard. Carr Creek State Park-750-acre lake featuring a beach, boat rental, camping, fishing and a full service marina. 843 Sassafras Creek Road.
Cumberland Falls State Resort-With a 68-foot drop that spans 125 feet, the Cumberland River forms one of the largest waterfalls east of the Rockies outside of Niagara Falls. On a clear night under a full moon, you can see a rare moonbow. Featuring a pool, hiking trails, cottages, lodge, cabins, restaurant, gift shop, campground and horseback riding. Dr. Thomas Walker State Historic Site-12-acre park with replica of the first pioneer house in Kentucky, built by Dr. Thomas Walker who led the first documented expedition through the Cumberland Gap in 1750. Features miniature golf, picnic facilities and a gift shop.
Kingdom Come State Park-Majestic scenic overlooks. Raven's Rock is a huge slab of stone that jets nearly 300 feet into the air at a 45-degree angle. The park is a perfect natural habitat for black bear. Features primitive camping, hiking trails, pedal boats, fishing, miniature golf and a gift shop. Levi Jackson Wilderness Road State Park-Commemorates the pioneers who settled Kentucky and traveled the Wilderness Road. Visitors may walk on portions of the historic trail and visit McHargue's Mill, a full operational, restored gristmill, which has one of the world's largest collections of millstones. Features a swimming pool, miniature golf, hiking and picnic shelters.
Natural Bridge State Resort-This 2,200-acre park sits in the Daniel Boone National Forest near the Red River Gorge, which contains many natural arches and high stone cliffs. Features a sky lift, lodge, cottages, restaurant, gift shop, meeting rooms, swimming pool, fishing, camping, hiking & nature center. Pine Mountain State Resort-Beautiful vistas of the surrounding mountain scenery can be viewed from the park's rustic lodge. Features a pool, cottages, restaurant, nature center, convention center, miniature golf and Wasioto Winds Golf Course.
