Need to cut loose? Knight’s Action Park/Caribbean Water Adventure is a family-friendly entertainment center open year-round that includes two 18-hole golf courses, batting cages, a golf practice range, go-kart track, kiddie rides and a 1930s ferris wheel standing nearly 60 feet tall. There's also a full-fledged water park including slides, children’s play area, action river, pools, bumper boats, pedal boats and a wave pool that is open through Labor Day.
If your sense of adventure extends to1950s nostalgia, pack up the gang for a night under the stars at the Route 66 Twin Drive In Theatre, open from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Join us in downtown Springfield for the Capital City Bicentennial Celebration, a free, two-day family-oriented festival, which takes place July 3-4, and features a variety of Lincoln-era and contemporary music, entertainment, children’s activities and fireworks. Ethnic, specialty and classic food and beverage items will be available for purchase. Additional programs and activities will be held at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, Old State Capitol, Lincoln Home, Illinois State Museum and Hoogland Center for the Arts.
All is fair at the Illinois State Fair. This annual event, which takes place August 14-23, is centered on the theme of agriculture and has been celebrated almost every year since 1853. Visitors can enjoy 10 days of constant excitement and entertainment, with everything from top-name stars to chilling carnival rides during the 2009 Illinois State Fair — one of the country’s biggest and best.
Want great music and food? The Old Capitol Blues & BBQ August 29 is a full day of great Blues music and BBQ favorites in downtown Springfield. There are more than 20 vendors and a BBQ competition. The Illinois Central Blues Club also hosts a Blues Challenge.
Looking for action? The Springfield Short Track & Mile Grand National Championship Motorcycle Races takes place in Springfield September 5-6. You can experience two full days of fast-paced, handlebar-to-handlebar action with national level motorcycle racing.
