CAPTIVA ISLAND, FL

Captiva Island, sister to larger Sanibel Island, is just over a small bridge from Turner Beach, and the scenic drive passes giant cacti, colorful bougainvilleas and other tropical flora. The short drive along the sea ends at downtown Captiva — which is really more of a village than a town.

Enjoy the island’s sub-tropical climate and year-round sunshine that allows visitors to golf, boat, fish, kayak, canoe and swim at any time of year. Take a trip down any of the peaceful waterways to catch a glimpse of some of Florida’s wildlife. You’ll see dolphins, herons and a variety of vibrant and beautiful birds, which is sure to delight nature lovers.

There are treasures to be found all over Captiva’s sandy, white beaches as colorful shells are scattered across the shore. In fact, the island is literally composed of shells and was created thousands of years ago. Today, it’s considered one of the best islands in the world for shelling.

And a trip to Captiva Island isn’t complete without sampling some of the local fare and fresh, succulent seafood. Whether you’re craving a lavish six-course meal or a more casual dining scene, you’re sure to find just what you’re looking for on the island.
