When you want a relaxing vacation where you're still close to all
the action, you'll find a hearty welcome in Stratford, Connecticut.
Located on Long Island Sound within an hour's drive of New York City, Stratford is
easy to get to via I-95, rail service, and a ferry from Long Island. The waterfront has always been important to the town's business life,
but it also offers two public beaches, five marinas, two public
boat-launches, and several fishing piers.
Preserving wilderness is important in Stratford: the town owns 250-acre Roosevelt Forest, and nearby is the Great Meadows Salt Marsh, one of New England's largest pristine salt marshes.
In 1939, Stratford was the site of the first
successful helicopter flight; today, the town is home to the National
Helicopter Museum. Stratford also features a number of buildings on
the National Historic Register.
