COPPER CENTER, AK


Copper Center is located on the old Richardson Highway about 200 road miles from Anchorage and 100 miles north of Valdez. The town has a population of just under 400, with the local economy closely linked to highway related tourism. Copper Center is the gateway to America’s largest National Park, Wrangell St. Elias National Park and Preserve.

Lodging choices in Copper Center are somewhat limited but include small bed-and-breakfasts and lodges, including the Copper River Princess Wilderness Lodge. The Lodge offer views of Wrangell St. Elias National Park and free shuttles to the National Park Service visitor center.

Copper Center is located at the confluence of the famous Copper River and Klutina River, offering world-class salmon fishing. Exploring the Wrangell St. Elias National Park is popular, including the historic mining towns of McCarthy and Kennicott. Additional activities from available from the Copper River Princess Lodge include Jetboat Trips, ATV trail rides, rafting, flightseeing and hiking. Valdez offers additional choices such as kayaking and Columbia Glacier cruises.
