Albany, New York has come a long way since its early days when the town was surrounded by a wooden stockade. Today’s travelers can enjoy convenient highways, railways and air service.
Navigating around Albany is easy because the highways and byways are accessible and convenient. Located at the crossroads of the Northeast, the New York State Thruway, Adirondack Northway, Taconic Parkway, and Interstate 88 all converge in the region. Before driving in the area, it is best to refer to highway maps in order to become familiar with the road names and general locations. Travelers are reminded to buckle up, both for safety and because it is the law.
To let someone else get you there and to save on fuel costs, Amtrak trains arrive daily at regional depots, and both national and regional bus services are available. Train service is a great way to relax and enjoy the New York scenery along the way.
Arriving by air means flying into the Albany International Airport. As the major air center for the Capital Region, Northeastern New York and Western New England, the airport is located at the junction of Interstate Highways 90 and 87. Once on the ground, transportation is available from taxis and limousines, buses, shuttle services and car rental companies.
Albany is an easy city to navigate and a fun city to visit.
