MORRIS, MB

The town of Morris is cradled right in the middle of the Red River Valley. Morris is remarkably flat when it comes to terrain, but it contains some of the best producing agricultural soils in the world.

Morris has been a growing and prosperous community since its birth in the late 1700s when fur traders settled into the area. Given its strategic location by the Red River, Morris was the perfect spot to spawn a settlement. The settlement was soon named after Alexander Morris who was the second lieutenant governor of Manitoba.

As a result of the agricultural influence, Morris is pioneer town with a pioneering spirit to match. The annual Manitoba Stampede and Exhibition is the most prominent pro-rodeo event in Canada. Enjoy watching the top names in bronco-busting, tie down roping, bareback riding and steering wrestling circles and of course bull riding. Aside from the riding and roping there are plenty of races to watch, like the thoroughbred chariot, pony chariot and chuckwagon racing. If you’re looking for a laugh you can check out the Rodeo Clown Mark Van Tienhoven from Sylvan Lake, Alberta. There is also another part of the exhibit called the Agricultural Fair where there are dairy shows, light and heavy horse shows, for the kids, a pig scramble, a Youth Stars of Manitoba Talent Competition, a petting zoo, balloon art and outdoor stage entertainment for the whole family to enjoy.
